Top Players salute Djokovic’s form
The form of Novak Djokovic has made him the undisputed favourite to win the Roland Garros 2011 and it is even the opinion of ‘Clay Master’ Rafael Nadal, who has voiced the same recently. The rivalry between Nadal and Djokovic is going to take another dimension at this year’s French Open given that Djokovic can overtake Nadal in the ATP rankings. The 39 match unbeaten run that the Serb brings into the tournament is a major reason for it. It is a winning run that stretches back into 2010 and it has focused all the attention on the Serbian.
He is just 405 points behind Nadal and will certainly overtake him if results go his way in the French Open this season. None have feared Djokovic as the contender for the top rankings consistently, at least during each of the previous seven titles that he has won. This time around, there seems to be an air of maturity and composure, which has definitely been provided as a result of this winning streak. Even Roger Federer has admitted to the fact that it will provide a certain degree of confidence that is unrivalled and it is really the key for Djokovic’s success in the Roland Garros 2011.
Even though Nadal has come out with the admission that Djokovic is the undoubted favourite, he still believes that he can once again succeed at his favourite stomping ground. However, all elements point otherwise, with Nadal already having lost five times in the Serbian this calendar year itself. Stopping Djokovic also seems to be on the mind of fourth favourite Andy Murray, who has also voiced similar opinions ahead of the prestigious tournament. The list of admirers for Djokovic has even extended towards past players, with McEnroe admitting that his winning streak looks totally incomparable to Djokovic’s one.
